History of Polished Plaster
Polished Plaster (Marmorino) has been very fashionable in various settings over the last decade however it can be dated back to 2000BC. It was in the 17th century in Italy that these highly crafted Polished Plaster (Marmorino) finishes first become popular. It was used for its breathability in the moist Venetian Lagoon area where many of these buildings had weak foundations and unsuitable for using marble slabs. The Polished Venetian Plaster was the perfect decorating material for the beautiful buildings offering a smooth reflective surface and allowing the building to breathe.
The famous architect Carlo Scarpa made Venetian Plaster very popular again over the last 50 years. Venetian Plaster was the perfect material to decorate the exterior of the Venetian buildings, the finishes were much lighter than the traditional marble slabs used for decoration thus helping the foundations and yet still being fully breathable in the moist Venetian lagoon environment. Many argue that had it not been for Carlo Scarpa the skills of Venetian Plaster would have died away by now.
The Stucco Italiano Marmorino has a very pleasant appearance offering a sense of luxury in any building. This material is based on an original Italian recipe. The polished plaster (Marmorino) is a very high quality polished plaster and very low on VOC content. When the material is in its natural white colour it has a Zero VOC content. Walleffects fire tested these polished plasters (Marmorino) achieving a class "O" British fire classification and a class B European fire classification. Smoke and surface spread tests were also completed to ensure compliance with building regulations for domestic and commercial buildings.
